Thinking

/thinking (alias /think) cycles the host gear, or sets one by name: off, none, default, or an effort token the selected model lists. max and maximum are different tokens. Tab completes the argument. The choice is written to config.json.

The approval model and the compaction model have their own gears.

Each command cycles that model’s efforts, or sets one by name. While the compaction switch is off, summary requests omit reasoning.

If the selected model does not support thinking, the command reports that and does nothing. The status bar shows Think Off, or Think plus the resolved gear. Models that cannot disable thinking omit Off from Tab completion. /thinking off then reports The selected model cannot disable thinking. and leaves the gear unchanged.

/verbose thinking hides or shows the Thinking panel. It stays on unless verboseThinking is false in config.json. Cards already in this session, including restored ones, follow the switch. The gear, the progress row, and /export stay. crystal run --show-thinking does not use this setting.
